A couple weeks ago I had developed the opportunity to travel to Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico to experience the Ranch’s phenomenal environment, food, fitness, hiking, spa, classes and so much more!

It came at a time after i was feeling just a little desperate for sunlight, and ended up being a phenomenal experience…

In regards to the ranch

Before we enter all the delicious details, Let me give out a little bit about Rancho La Puerta’s history. The family-owned and operated ranch was founded in 1940 by Edmond and Deborah Szekely. While I didn’t get to meet Deborah in person, I’ve heard amazing things about her nature and zest forever! Deborah is currently 93 years old, still lectures in the ranch weekly and works hard to change and inspire healthy lifestyles. Guests stay typically 4 or seven days and result from all over the world. This is not a weight reduction resort, but rather a place to see overall health and health and fitness. You may make your own schedule for the day, and do when you please, although I would say that most guests find yourself working out at least 1x per day. Each day is different though, and you can allow it to be whatever you prefer.

While much unique of my typical Mexico vacations of taking in tequila and shoving potato chips in my mouth area, this is still unbelievably beautiful and FUN. Our times contains TRX, yoga exercises, and circuit classes, hands-on cooking demonstrations and classes, a natural farm knowledge, 6am sunrise hikes, and mostly vegetarian-focused food. I LOVED IT.

Now I have no idea about you, but personally I have a hard time sitting on the beach all day simply lounging around. I could do it for an hour or so, but from then on I wish to be doing something energetic with my body or brain. My ideal holiday involves having new experiences, staying energetic and eating Great food. The ranch provided exactly that.

Did I miss having potato chips and guac? Sure! However, I loved just how my mind, body and soul felt at the ranch. I was inspired, well-rested, creative, relaxed yet still active. Would I do it again? YES. Actually, I’d want to provide my Mother and Grandma for any girl’s trip! We noticed that there were plenty of multi-generational families arriving together.

The rooms & property:

The property is over 3,000 acres, and that means you know you’ll get your steps in for the day. Everything is normally surrounded by a vast selection of beautiful plants, herbs, flowers and trees. It’s essentially like stepping onto an oasis in the middle of the desert.

Our rooms were huge with firm, comfortable mattresses. Our villa acquired a fireplace, patio, and even a little kitchen. A very important factor to note: There’s no Television or internet in the rooms, and that means you really do have to be able to unplug. Different lounges around the property offer internet if you should check-in.

The food!

All meals are served in the dining hall, but breakfast was always by far the best. I cherished the scrambled eggs with salsa, coffee beans, cilantro & onions. In addition they serve corn tortillas, cinnamon oatmeal, the best muesli EVER, whole grain bread, clean homemade jam, hot water with ginger & lemon, tropical fruit and so very much more.

Another perk: There are always gluten free or vegan choices for those who need it. It was often fun to find out what folks would create with their breakfasts. One day I made breakfast tacos and another morning I had fashioned my cherished peanut butter toast with banana.

Lunch may be the same scenario. Lots of veggies, protein & clean flavors. Plus they always have chia, nutritional yeast, flax seeds and several spices and herbal remedies out. It motivated me to put more spices and herbal products on my salads and vegetables.

The organic farm:

One evening we were able to head to La Cocina Que Canta , the ranch’s organic plantation to choose vegetables and herbs for our cooking class meal. The herbs were a number of the freshest; we selected them straight from the garden and sampled as we proceeded to go. I learned that you can actually eat arugula blossoms (and they are Great tasting). It was apparent the Ranch and their gardeners do a tremendous job at taking care of their property and soil in order to maintain such flavorful and fresh vegetables.

This was a genuine highlight of the trip for me as one of my dreams is to have my own organic garden. (Actually if you noticed via Snapchat, Tony recently has started our own indoor organic garden in our sunroom!)

Cooking classes:

The Ranch offers wonderful hands-on cooking classes for guests throughout the week and luckily I was able to attend two of these! Each night the foodstuffs we created were diverse, innovative and FLAVORFUL! These were offered family style, so we each worked in teams on the recipe. The recipes themselves mainly on vegetables, legumes and seafood. Triple check!

The very first night on the cooking school, Liz and I cooked the most great tasting chipotle corn chowder with poblanos, fresh corn, potatoes and a variety of spices. I’m certainly wishing to recreate it for you personally guys just in time for sweet corn season. Keep tuned in!

I will tell you that We left the cooking food class feeling inspired with several new cooking methods. Including how exactly to create a actually rich tasting vegetable broth. YAS compared to that.

Fitness classes & hikes:

Of course you understand I hit up those fitness classes and hiking (my favorite workout). The first morning hours we went on the Professor’s hike, a 3.5 mile loop in to the mountain behind the ranch. If you check out the ranch, definitely take the time to perform the hikes. They are the ideal quantity of demanding and place you in an excellent morning mood.

Another hike offered may be the organic breakfast hike, where you travel to the cooking college and enjoy a beautiful organic breakfast time.

Private pools & Juice Bar:

There are many pools round the ranch which are both quiet and relaxing. There is also an AMAZING organic juice bar for if you are searching for an afternoon go with me up. Try the beet juice!

Overall, I loved the ranch and recommend it. The crowd is commonly a little older and female-based, nevertheless there were a lot of couples and families. I’m looking forward to heading back 1 day!
